Engulfed in a rich history and centrally located between the major metropolitan areas of Baltimore and Washington, D.C., Fort Meade, Maryland has grown over the years into a military and social destination, serving every possible need of modern military personnel.
More than 100 tenant organizations from all four armed services, ranging from the National Security Agency to the renowned U.S. Army Field Band, operate from the installation. The "Towne Center" offers every convenience, including post offices, banks, credit union, ambulatory care, day care, library, theater and more. In fact, Fort Meade boasts one of the largest offerings of recreation facilities in the country, with at least 15, including the Gaffney Sports Arena, Murphy Field House, indoor/outdoor pools, Mullins Stadium track, the Equestrian Center and the Fort Meade Bowling Center. The post is also a short car trip from attractions such as the Smithsonian Institution, the Kennedy Center, the National Aquarium, the White House and major sporting events. In addition to service diversity and recreation, Fort Meade strives for strong community ties. All combined, Fort Meade remains one of the most attractive posts of duty in the United States.
